Academics make fun of Independence

Academics inject some comedy into the independence debate

Academics from Scottish universities will join the Scottish Independence debate by presenting their well-researched jokes at the popular “Bright Club” comedy night in Glasgow on Wednesday 23 October 2013.

The show, hosted by comedians Bruce Morton and Andrew Learmonth, will also feature a mock referendum.

Bright Club is billed as “the thinking person’s variety night”, in which academics present their research in science, the arts and humanities through stand-up comedy. Launched in Glasgow in 2011, the show has proven a highly popular format for academics to share their latest research findings with the public.

Dr Zara Gladman, Bright Club Glasgow organiser and University of Glasgow academic said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for academics to engage in the debate. We’ve assembled an incredibly diverse lineup, with experts in geology, media, literature, chemistry and law all on the same bill!

I’m very excited about the show and curious to see which way our mock referendum will go. It’s going to be an interesting night!”

Bruce Morton said: “The finest minds of their generation will sort the whole thing out downstairs in the pub.”

“Bright Club Glasgow: Indy Ref Special” will take place on Wednesday 23rd October 2013 at The Admiral Bar, Waterloo Street.

Tickets are available now from the Bright Club Glasgow website.
